Steven Paul Jobs by theexperiential Steven Paul Jobs by theexperiential
This is a typeface-driven design based on the "Here's to the crazy ones" ad campaign from Apple in the 90s, using Motter Tektura, Apple Garamond, Myriad, Univers, Gill Sans, and Volkswagen AG Rounded, fonts present in Apple branding and products.

Steven Paul Jobs by ~dylanroscover is one of the most amazing Text Art portraits I've ever seen on deviantART. Wow. From the first glance it looks like a painting... But if you look closer and click on ''full view'' you'll see that it's all typography, even his pupil! This deviant just joined a short while ago, but already has a gallery you should keep an eye on!

Absolutely stunning! Can you give me a hint on how do do something by myself? Did you use a Layout software or Photoshop? And how much time did you spent on this work?

how do you come up with the words that create the art? are they just random or are you basing them off something?

That's, like, a "wordle" that's been re-arranged into something much, much better! It truly is brilliant, the detail, the way the words curve in the lenses, it's truly a fantastic piece.

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not found of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things.

Nice Jobs. ;)

Pretty amazing. It is definitely a different typeface-driven design; not just a bunch of words squeezed into an object.

:+fav: and featured.

the best tutorial I can provide is:

1) choose fonts wisely. investigate typography.com and fontshop.com, for starters. there are many brilliant foundries out there but those are some of the best.

2) choose words / phrases carefully. don't just use the subject's name a billion times over. that usually isn't very meaningful.

3) be prepared to spend 20+ hours in front of Illustrator. all you can really use to get these right is the pen tool to trace the contours of the face, and the type on path tool to set the type on those paths. that's really about it, technically speaking.

4) take breaks often, but always come back, or it will take months to finish.

5) if you don't feel great, emotional, or a certain aura of happiness coming from the process, it probably isn't worth doing. passion yields great work.

cheers!
